Two scenes can be perceived in the painting, differentiated by the style of calligraphy, pigments and imageries. Yet, the scenes are not contrasting as one would expect, but harmonious in their portrayals of the Spring winds, reflecting the unique blend of the East and West that sets the art of Hong Zhu An apart from other esteemed artists. On one side of the painting, the artist inspires the sensations of the gentle Spring winds with his light and fluid strokes, using ink as a form of expression than just a medium. On the other side, the lone bird, a symbol of flight, contrasts with its warm tones to conjure images of the warm Spring breeze, calm and gentle in its approach towards the thawing season.
