Dedy Sufriadi
The Guardian
Mixed Medium on Canvas
100 x 100 cm
SOLD
A play and parody on the depiction of scenes from mythology, Dedy cleverly replaces the traditional sombre colors most often used in mythological images with abstract figures and bright, lurid colours. By doing this, he not only transforms classical images into contemporary ones, but places agitation on the viewing of such mythology, portraying it in lighter tones with loud and even gauzy colors.
The image here depicts a human figure and one that seems not quite human, thus implying that it is some kind of supernatural or heavenly creature serving as a mythological 'guardian'.
