Pham Luan was born in 1954 in Hanoi, Vietnam. He is a graduate of the Hanoi Teacher's Training College and is an Autodidact in Plastic Art. Pham Luan is currently a member of the Vietnam Fine Art Association and the Hanoi Fine Art Association. He is considered to be a specialist in oil painting and is one of the leading artists of his generation. Pham Luan is represented by major galleries and regularly exhibits in USA, Hong Kong and Thailand. Although he paints a variety of subjects, Pham Luan always returns to the subject of Hanoi, with its scenic location on the banks of the Red River, its lakes and ponds, the clarity of light, verdant greenery, elegant French architecture, and the wealth of its own culture. As Pham Luan paints with a sensitive heart which vibrates with a passionate affection, commonplace sights become emotive through his gamut of colours, the glittering green, the various shades of yellow and red.
