One of a fort’s greatest functions is to shelter and serve as defence from an enemey’s attack. In the olden days, cannons were frequently used to deter the onslaught of enemies. For each battle fought, the conclusion was always whether one would win or lose, live or die. Blood and tears will be shed and war was, and still is, a futile effort. In this piece, Vani is attracted to the symbolism of the fountain pen which represents intellect. An intellect is always calm and stoic when receiving “attacks” from outsiders; the ability to remain composed and collected in any situation is a harnessed skill that requires discipline and motivation. This allows the individual to not focus on wins or losses and right or wrong. Instead, one focuses on the bigger picture and the idea of a better tomorrow and improved society takes centerstage.
