This work by Dedy Sufriadi depicts a woman in the centre of the canvas, surrounded by a myriad of smaller figures- presumably her children. Dedy uses bold lines and primarily a monochromatic colour palette to depict the mother, conveying her strong and formidable matriarchal presence. The artist’s ‘Childlike series’ was borne from him becoming a father, and these illustrations appear to reflect the way in which a young child might depict their parent in a drawing. Creating images that are worth a thousand words, his pieces are striking in their directness and honesty - leaving a memorable impact on all who view them.
His works contain a sense of spirituality and he tries to convey the essence of a subject in his paintings.
