The children' forms are laden with meaning in the context of China's history and progression in Wu Liang Yan's sculptures. The pair of sculptures, consisting of a man and woman standing apart, have exaggerated forms and are dressed in the prolific blue uniforms. Their hands are placed near their midriffs and are seeming to be in the motion of clapping.
His figures are characterized with a red tie, which is part of every Chinese student's uniform. To him and many young artists growing up under the Communist regime, this also represents the expectations of society towards youths.
