Lim Tze Peng's work serves as a vibrant chronicle of the Singapore River, affectionately known as 'Mother River.' His ability to capture the lifeblood of Singapore through vivid colors and rhythmic lines not only illustrates the bustling life along Boat Quay but also underscores the river's critical role in the nation’s economic evolution. The warehouses and jetties that lined its banks were once teeming with activity, as bumboats transported goods vital for trade. Through his art, Lim immortalizes these scenes, ensuring that the memories of this pivotal era in Singapore’s history are preserved for future generations.
He pioneered with a breakthrough style in 2005, called ‘hutuzi’ or muddled calligraphy - a melding of painting and calligraphy.
